What to know before renting a car at Matsuyama Airport

Where the rental counters are, how to pick up the car at 7 companies, when each counter closes, and the rules about adding things to the car. Checked on the official pages of the airport and the companies.

The counters are near the east exit on the 1st floor

The official page of Matsuyama Airport describes the place of the rental car counters like this.

レンタカー受付カウンターは、ターミナルビル1階の東側出口付近にあります

Translation: “The rental car counters are near the east exit on the 1st floor of the terminal building.”

From the point of view of an arriving passenger, they are on the right after you leave the baggage claim.

The store page of Nissan Rent a Car is built on the screen by a script, so its text could not be read. The place of the counter and the address of the office have not been confirmed.

All companies guide you to an office outside the airport by shuttle

After the procedure at the counter, the guidance is to go to the office by shuttle car and receive the car there (from the official pages of the 6 companies that could be checked). You do not get into the car right outside the airport building.

  • Toyota Rent a Car: Go to the dedicated counter at the back on the right after leaving the arrival lobby. The shuttle between the airport and the store is free.
  • Nippon Rent-A-Car: After the counter, a shuttle takes you to the office. It takes 2 to 3 minutes by car from the airport.
  • ORIX Rent a Car: Go to the counter after you arrive. A free shuttle goes to the store (about 3 minutes).
  • Budget Rent a Car: Go to the counter on the 1st floor inside the airport. “The blue sign about 100 m from the right-side entrance is the landmark.”
  • Heisei Rent-a-Car: Leave the terminal, turn right, and board at the shuttle stop past the taxi stand. You apply for the shuttle when you make the reservation.
  • Times Car: No staff are always at the counter. When you call the store on the dedicated phone, a shuttle car comes (about 10 minutes).

The closing time of the counter differs by company

The times could be confirmed on the official pages for 2 companies.

  • Times Car: reception and shuttle until 19:00
  • Heisei Rent-a-Car: open 8:00 to 18:00 (the page says “AM8:00〜PM6:00”)

If you use a flight that arrives at night, please check the reception hours of the company before you make a reservation.

Rules about adding things to the car and taking videos

Reading the rental terms of the 7 companies, all of them prohibit “changing the original state, such as remodeling or modifying” (the article number is from Article 16 to Article 22, depending on the company). On the other hand, installing a camera, using suction cups or double-sided tape, and filming inside the car are not written in any of the terms. Something not being written does not mean it is allowed.

For filming the stores and the grounds, 2 companies ask for their consent.

  • Nippon Rent-A-Car (Article 17, paragraph 2): prohibits filming or recording offices, stores, and grounds without consent, and posting or streaming them on social media
  • Budget Rent a Car (Article 18, paragraph 2): the same content. Employees are also covered

Also, ORIX Rent a Car and Nissan Rent a Car write in their terms that they do not provide the video of the drive recorder in the car to the customer.

Parking for seeing someone off is free for 30 minutes after entering

The airport has Parking Lots 1 to 3. The official page says the following.

お見送り・お出迎えのお客様は、駐車場をご利用ください（入庫後30分まで無料）。

Translation: “Customers seeing someone off or meeting someone, please use the parking lots (free for up to 30 minutes after entering).”

For a regular car, the fee is 100 yen for up to 60 minutes. The maximum per 24 hours is 1,000 yen in the normal period and 1,400 yen in the busy period at Parking Lot 1, and 800 yen in the normal period and 1,200 yen in the busy period at Parking Lots 2 and 3. The busy period is written as Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, bridge holidays, Golden Week, Obon, the New Year holidays, and so on. The capacity is 1,482 spaces at Parking Lot 1, 151 at Parking Lot 2, and 170 at Parking Lot 3. The height limit is 2.1 m at Parking Lot 1 and 2.4 m at Parking Lots 2 and 3. The airport says large vehicles 6 m or longer cannot use any of the parking lots.
