What the Driver Does After an Accident: Article 72 of the Road Traffic Act

The driver’s duties after a traffic accident are set by Article 72, paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Act (道路交通法). This is the text of the version read on e-Gov Law Search (e-Gov 法令検索) on October 14, 2026 (in force from July 21, 2026).

Translation: “When a traffic accident occurs, the driver and other crew members of the vehicle involved in the accident (called ‘drivers, etc.’ in this Section) must immediately stop driving the vehicle, help any injured people, and take the necessary measures, such as preventing danger on the road. In this case, the driver of the vehicle (or, if the driver has died or been injured and cannot do so, the other crew members; the same applies in the next paragraph) must report the following to the police officer if one is at the scene, or if not, immediately to a police officer at the nearest police station (including a police box or residential police box; the same applies in that paragraph): the date, time and place of the accident; the number of dead and injured and the degree of injury; the objects damaged and the degree of damage; the cargo of the vehicle involved; and the measures taken for the accident (called ‘accident date, time, etc.’ in Article 75-23, paragraphs 1 and 3).”

This provision does not limit the rule to cases with injured people. It applies to “the driver and other crew members of the vehicle involved in the accident,” and does not limit it to the side that caused the accident. The order is: stop driving, help the injured, prevent danger on the road, and report to the police. The report covers the date, time and place, the number of dead and injured and the degree of injury, the objects damaged and the degree of damage, the cargo, and the measures taken.

Paragraph 2 says that the police officer who receives the report may order the driver not to leave the scene.

前項後段の規定により報告を受けた最寄りの警察署の警察官は、負傷者を救護し、又は道路における危険を防止するため必要があると認めるときは、当該報告をした運転者に対し、警察官が現場に到着するまで現場を去つてはならない旨を命ずることができる。

Translation: “A police officer at the nearest police station who has received a report under the latter part of the preceding paragraph may, when the officer finds it necessary to help injured people or prevent danger on the road, order the driver who made the report not to leave the scene until a police officer arrives.”

Of the penalties for violations, this article quotes Article 117, paragraph 1, and the lead-in text and item 17 of Article 119, paragraph 1. There are other penalties as well: Article 117, paragraph 2, Article 117-5, item 1, and Article 120, paragraph 1, item 11 (for people who did not follow the order in paragraph 2).

車両等(軽車両を除く。以下この項において同じ。)の運転者が、当該車両等の交通による人の死傷があつた場合において、第七十二条(交通事故の場合の措置)第一項前段の規定に違反したときは、五年以下の拘禁刑又は五十万円以下の罰金に処する。

Translation: “When the driver of a vehicle (excluding light vehicles; the same applies below in this paragraph) violates the first part of Article 72 (Measures in the Event of a Traffic Accident), paragraph 1, in a case where a person was killed or injured by the traffic of that vehicle, the penalty is imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 500,000 yen.”

次の各号のいずれかに該当する者は、三月以下の拘禁刑又は五万円以下の罰金に処する。 … 十七 第七十二条(交通事故の場合の措置)第一項後段に規定する報告をしなかつた者

Translation: “A person who falls under any of the following items is punished by imprisonment of up to three months or a fine of up to 50,000 yen. … Item 17: A person who did not make the report described in the latter part of Article 72 (Measures in the Event of a Traffic Accident), paragraph 1.”

What to Say on a 110 Call, and in What Order

According to the Ehime Prefectural Police page, a call to 110 reaches the same place from anywhere in Ehime Prefecture.

みなさんからの緊急通報である「110番通報」は、県内のどこからかけても松山市の愛媛県警察本部内にある通信指令課につながります。

Translation: “Emergency calls to 110 from everyone reach the Communications Command Division inside the Ehime Prefectural Police Headquarters in Matsuyama, from anywhere in the prefecture.”

For what to say, the police page lists: what happened (a traffic accident is one example), when, where, the damage or the situation of the accident, your address and name and your relation to the incident or accident, and your telephone number. This is how to call.

確実に「110」をプッシュ(ダイヤル)し、あわてずに落ち着いて、お話しください。

Translation: “Press (dial) ‘110’ carefully, and speak calmly without panicking.”

From a mobile phone, press 110 without an area code.

そのまま数字の110を順に押してください。 (市外番号は必要ありません。)

Translation: “Just press the numbers 110 in order. (An area code is not necessary.)”

Calls that are not urgent go to a different number.

相談や問い合わせ等の緊急性のない電話は、警察本部の「警察相談電話」(短縮ダイヤル#9110)もしくは最寄りの警察署・交番等をご利用下さい。

Translation: “For consultations, inquiries, and other calls that are not urgent, please use the Police Headquarters’ ‘Police Consultation Line’ (short dial #9110) or your nearest police station or police box.”

After the Accident: the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Page

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s compulsory automobile liability insurance and mutual aid portal site has a page called “What should you do first after a traffic accident?” (交通事故にあったらまずどうする?). Part of it lists what the victim of an accident should check, but the report to the police is written as something to do “if you were in a traffic accident.”

交通事故にあった場合、警察への報告は義務です。(特にケガを負った場合は「人身扱い」の届出が重要です。)また、自賠責保険金(共済金)の請求などで必要となるので、早めに自動車安全運転センターから、交通事故証明書の交付を受けましょう。

Translation: “If you are in a traffic accident, reporting to the police is a duty. (If you are injured in particular, it is important to file it as a ‘personal injury case.’) Also, because it is needed to claim compulsory automobile liability insurance money (mutual aid money), get a traffic accident certificate from the Automobile Safety Driving Center early.”

なお、警察に届出をしていない事故については証明書が交付されないため、必ず警察へ届出をしてください。

Translation: “Note that a certificate is not issued for an accident that was not reported to the police, so be sure to report it to the police.”

The same page lists four other items. They are: check the other party’s registration number, address, name, contact details, and insurance; get the names and contact details of witnesses; save the dashboard camera video and record the scene yourself; and see a doctor. About seeing a doctor, there is this sentence.

その場では軽傷だと思っても、あとで意外とケガが重かったという例もあります。速やかに医師の診断等を受けましょう。

Translation: “Even if you think the injury is minor at the scene, there are cases where the injury turned out to be more serious later. See a doctor promptly.”

When You Call 110 or 119 in a Foreign Language

110: The Prefectural Police Post a Standard English Sentence

The 2024 (Reiwa 6) edition of the National Police Agency’s White Paper on Police describes the handling of 110 calls in foreign languages as follows.

警察では、外国語に通じた警察官を通信指令室に配置するほか、通訳センター等の警察職員を含めた三者通話を行うなどして、日本語を解さない外国人からの110番通報に対応している。

Translation: “The police respond to 110 calls from foreign nationals who do not understand Japanese by placing police officers who know foreign languages in the communications command room and by holding three-way calls that include police staff such as those at the interpretation center.”

This describes the police across the country. The Ehime Prefectural Police page gives examples of what to say on a 110 call, in English and Japanese.

I am a foreigner. I do not speak Japanese.

(ⅲ)A traffic accident! The scene is …… My name is…… My telephone number is ○○-○○. I can speak English.

The Ehime Prefectural Police have an Interpretation Center. A document recruiting private interpreters says this.

愛媛県警察通訳センターでは、外国人に関係する事件や事故が発生したときに、一時的に通訳業務に従事していただける民間の通訳人を随時募集しています。

Translation: “The Ehime Prefectural Police Interpretation Center is recruiting private interpreters at any time who can temporarily do interpreting work when an incident or accident involving a foreign national occurs.”

Which languages the Ehime Prefectural Police handle through an interpreter on 110 could not be confirmed from official sources. Use the English examples on the police page and say where you are.

119: 8 Fire Departments in Ehime Have It, and Matsuyama City Has 32 Languages

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency (総務省消防庁) explains foreign-language service on 119 as follows.

電話通訳センターを介した三者間同時通訳による119番多言語対応は、外国人からの119番通報時、外国人のいる救急現場での活動時等において、迅速かつ的確に対応するため、電話通訳センターを介して、24時間365日主要な言語で対応するものです。

Translation: “Multilingual handling of 119 calls by three-way simultaneous interpreting through a telephone interpretation center is a service that responds in major languages 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, through a telephone interpretation center, in order to respond quickly and accurately when a foreign national calls 119 or when working at an emergency scene where foreign nationals are present.”

The number of fire departments that have this system differs by region. In the agency’s material (as of January 1, 2025 (Reiwa 7)), it is 673 of 720 departments nationwide, and 8 of 14 departments (57.1%) in Ehime Prefecture. The material does not say which 8 departments in Ehime they are.

The Matsuyama City page says the system has been introduced. The page’s update date is October 30, 2025.

日本語でのコミュニケーションが難しい方から119番通報があった場合に、24時間365日円滑に対応できるよう、電話通訳センターを介し、三者間の外国語同時通訳を導入しました。

Translation: “We have introduced three-way simultaneous foreign-language interpreting through a telephone interpretation center, so that we can respond smoothly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, when a person who has difficulty communicating in Japanese calls 119.”

32言語に対応しています。

Translation: “It supports 32 languages.”

The Matsuyama City page lists languages including English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Nepali, Spanish, and Korean. For fire departments in Ehime other than Matsuyama City, whether they have it could not be confirmed.

Matsuyama City’s “How to report by disaster type on 119” (災害別の119番通報要領) page (updated March 1, 2012) lists five things to say on 119, in order. The first is this.

火事か救急か、その他の災害か

Translation: “Whether it is a fire, a medical emergency (ambulance), or another disaster”

After that come the place of the disaster (town name, street number, and so on), landmarks such as buildings and intersections, the situation of the disaster, and your own name and telephone number. The same page has an example of a 119 call that needs an ambulance.

救急車が必要な際の119番通報例です。

Translation: “This is an example of a 119 call when an ambulance is needed.”

The Matsuyama City page also has a note for calling 119 from a mobile phone.

自動車などを運転中の時は、安全な場所に停車してから通報しましょう。

Translation: “If you are driving a car or similar, stop in a safe place before you report.”

スマートフォンや携帯電話で通報すると、松山市内からの通報でも隣接市町の消防機関へ繋がることがありますが、落ち着いて松山市内から通報していることを伝えてください。

Translation: “When you report from a smartphone or mobile phone, even a call from inside Matsuyama City may be connected to the fire service of a neighboring city or town. Please stay calm and say that you are calling from inside Matsuyama City.”

Accident or Breakdown on an Expressway

Matsuyama Expressway and Others: the Order of Steps from NEXCO West Japan

The NEXCO West Japan page divides what to do after an accident or breakdown into four steps. The first is not to walk around.

事故・故障などでやむを得ず停止した場合は、本線や路肩を歩き回らないでください。ここ数年、停止した車の運転者や同乗者が、後方からきた車にはねられ死亡する事故が多発しています。

Translation: “If you have to stop because of an accident, breakdown, or the like, do not walk around on the main lanes or the shoulder. In the past few years, there have been many accidents in which the driver or passengers of a stopped car were hit and killed by a car coming from behind.”

The same page lists the following four as especially dangerous situations.

車外への避難中または待機中 道路上で事故当事者同士で話し合い中 非常電話で通報のため道路を歩行中または横断中 路肩でパンク修理・タイヤチェーン脱着中

Translation: “While evacuating from or waiting outside the vehicle. While the people involved in an accident talk with each other on the road. While walking on or crossing the road to report from an emergency phone. While fixing a flat tire or putting on or taking off tire chains on the shoulder.”

The second step is to signal the cars behind.

後続車の運転者が停止車両等に気づいているとは限りません。ハザードランプ、発炎筒、停止表示器材で後続車に対する安全措置をとってください。

Translation: “The drivers of cars behind do not always notice a stopped vehicle. Use hazard lights, a flare, and a stop warning device to take safety measures for the cars behind.”

The third is to move to safety.

運転者も同乗者も全員、通行車両に注意しながらガードレールの外など安全な場所にすみやかに避難してください。車内は安全地帯ではありません。後続車に追突され、命を落とした事故が多発しています。

Translation: “Everyone, the driver and all passengers, please move quickly to a safe place, such as outside the guardrail, while watching for passing vehicles. The inside of the car is not a safe zone. There have been many accidents in which people were hit from behind by a following car and lost their lives.”

The fourth is to report.

「110番」、「非常電話」、「道路緊急ダイヤル(♯9910)」のいずれかで、事故や故障状況を通報してください。なお、道路緊急ダイヤルは携帯電話からも発信できます。

Translation: “Report the accident or breakdown situation by one of ‘110,’ an ‘emergency phone,’ or the ‘Road Emergency Dial (#9910).’ The Road Emergency Dial can also be called from a mobile phone.”

Emergency phones are placed beside the road at these intervals.

非常電話は、本線上(1kmおき)、トンネル内(200mおき)、インターチェンジ、SA、PA、バスストップ、非常駐車場に設置されています。

Translation: “Emergency phones are installed on the main lanes (every 1 km), in tunnels (every 200 m), and at interchanges, SAs, PAs, bus stops, and emergency parking areas.”

受話器を取るだけで、道路管制センターにつながります。事故や故障の状況、負傷者の有無などを伝えてください。

Translation: “Just by picking up the receiver, you are connected to the road control center. Tell them the situation of the accident or breakdown, whether anyone is injured, and so on.”

In a tunnel, the shoulder is narrow. The NEXCO West Japan FAQ says this.

トンネル内は路肩が狭いため、できるだけトンネルの外に出るか非常駐車帯に入る努力をしてください。

Translation: “The shoulder is narrow inside a tunnel, so please try as much as you can to get out of the tunnel or into an emergency parking bay.”

The Stop Warning Device Is Also in the Law

The “stop warning device” (停止表示器材) for signaling cars behind appears in Article 75-11 of the Road Traffic Act and Article 27-6 of the Order for Enforcement of the Act.

自動車の運転者は、故障その他の理由により本線車道若しくはこれに接する加速車線、減速車線若しくは登坂車線(以下「本線車道等」という。)又はこれらに接する路肩若しくは路側帯において当該自動車を運転することができなくなつたときは、政令で定めるところにより、当該自動車が故障その他の理由により停止しているものであることを表示しなければならない。

Translation: “When the driver of a motor vehicle becomes unable to drive it, because of a breakdown or another reason, on the main carriageway or the acceleration lane, deceleration lane, or climbing lane next to it (called the ‘main carriageway, etc.’ below), or on the shoulder or roadside strip next to these, the driver must, as provided by Cabinet Order, display that the vehicle is stopped because of a breakdown or another reason.”

The Order for Enforcement sets the way to display it as follows.

法第七十五条の十一第一項の規定による表示は、次の各号に掲げる区分に従い、それぞれ当該各号に定める停止表示器材を、後方から進行してくる自動車の運転者が見やすい位置に置いて行うものとする。

Translation: “The display under Article 75-11, paragraph 1 of the Act is made by placing the stop warning device set out in each of the following items, according to the categories listed in those items, in a position easy for the drivers of vehicles coming from behind to see.”

The NEXCO West Japan page also gives a caution for placing the devices.

発炎筒、停止表示器材は車の後方に、無理のない範囲で設置をしてください。また、移動する際はガードレールの外側や中央分離帯に沿って後方へ移動し、足元にも十分注意してください。

Translation: “Place the flare and the stop warning device behind the car, only as far as you reasonably can. When you move, move backward along the outside of the guardrail or along the median strip, and watch your footing carefully.”

Shimanami Kaido: Guidance from JB Honshu-Shikoku Expressway

The page on road closures from JB Honshu-Shikoku Expressway (JB本四高速) writes the Shimanami Kaido as “E76 西瀬戸自動車道(しまなみ海道)” (E76 Nishiseto Expressway (Shimanami Kaido)) and treats it as one of the company’s routes. The company’s page gives the order of steps after an accident or breakdown as follows.

まずは、ハザードランプを点灯させ後続車に合図を送ってください。 その後、速やかに路肩に停車後、発炎筒を着火させ三角表示板とともに車の後方に置いてください。 ガードレールの外等、安全な場所へ避難したのち、非常電話や道路緊急ダイヤル【#9910】にて通報をお願いします。

Translation: “First, turn on your hazard lights and signal the cars behind. After that, stop quickly on the shoulder, light a flare, and place it behind the car together with a triangle sign. After you have moved to a safe place such as outside the guardrail, please report by emergency phone or the Road Emergency Dial [#9910].”

One of the things to report is the location.

事故の発生箇所[キロポスト、上り線(本州へ向かう側)か下り線(四国へ向かう側)か]

Translation: “The place of the accident [the kilometer post, and whether it is the inbound line (the side toward Honshu) or the outbound line (the side toward Shikoku)]”

How to Call #9910, and Phones That Cannot Use It

After you call #9910, you choose the road administrator by voice guidance. The NEXCO West Japan page says this.

#9910をダイヤル後、自動音声ガイダンスにしたがって道路の管理者を選択してください。選択された道路の管理者につながります。

Translation: “After dialing #9910, choose the road administrator by following the automatic voice guidance. You will be connected to the road administrator you chose.”

The JB Honshu-Shikoku Expressway page says, “本四道路の番号を押すことで、本四高速管制室へ繋がります” (by pressing the number for the Honshi roads, you are connected to the Honshi Expressway control room).

The NEXCO West Japan page also has a note on phones that cannot be used.

衛星電話と「050」の番号帯のIP電話からは通話ができません。

Translation: “Calls cannot be made from satellite phones or from IP phones in the ‘050’ number range.”

The FAQ has this about mobile phones.

なお、道路緊急ダイヤルを携帯電話でご利用になられる場合、利用可能な携帯電話が(Docomo、KDDI(au)、SoftBank)になります。

Translation: “When the Road Emergency Dial is used on a mobile phone, the mobile phones that can be used are those of (Docomo, KDDI (au), and SoftBank).”

Whether #9910 can be used from a mobile phone from another country could not be confirmed on official pages. If it cannot be used, there are the emergency phones and 110.

Holes, Fallen Objects, and Dirt on the Road: Road Emergency Dial #9910

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism page describes what #9910 covers as follows.

These are the things to check when you report.

異状箇所特定のため、道路名、進行方向、キロポスト、周辺の施設等をご確認いただきますようお願い致します。

Translation: “To identify the place of the abnormality, please check the road name, direction of travel, kilometer post, and nearby facilities.”

For contacting about accidents, the same Ministry page says the following. On expressways, as in the previous section, NEXCO West Japan and JB Honshu-Shikoku Expressway also list #9910 as a place to report an accident.

事故情報は、警察(110番)へ連絡してください。

Translation: “Please report accident information to the police (110).”

On roads managed by prefectures and cities and towns, the response can take time.

都道府県等が管理する道路については、夜間・土・日・祝日は早急に対応出来ない場合もあります。

Translation: “For roads managed by prefectures and others, we may not be able to respond quickly at night, on Saturdays and Sundays, and on public holidays.”

Since March 2024, you can also report on LINE. Install the LINE app on your smartphone and add the Ministry’s reporting account as a friend. About the time a report is confirmed as received, the page says this.

通報の受信確認は、国土交通省が管理する国道および高速道路以外は、原則として開庁時間内(開庁時間は、各道路管理者によって異なります。)とします。 ただし、送付は24時間受付いたします。

Translation: “For roads other than national roads and expressways managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, confirmation that a report was received is, in principle, made within office hours (office hours differ by road administrator). However, sending is accepted 24 hours a day.”

About information on broken-down vehicles received on #9910, the NEXCO West Japan FAQ says this.

故障車の情報は、高速道路、都市高速道路のみとなります。

Translation: “Information on broken-down vehicles is only for expressways and urban expressways.”

If your car stops working on an ordinary road, the contact is JAF in the next section, or, for a rental car, the rental car company (see the section on rental cars).

The Wording of the Terms, and Reporting to the Police

The articles on accidents do not contain the word “police” (the articles on theft say things like “immediately report to the nearest police”). The terms do not explain whether the “measures required by law” that the accident articles ask for include a report to the police. Article 72, paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Act sets the report to the police. This article did the comparison of the wording of the terms with Article 72; it is not an explanation from any company.

Some company pages state the report to the police. Toyota Rent a Car says the following on its page about the flow of use.

万一の事故・故障が発生した場合は、速やかに警察へご連絡のうえ、出発店舗へご一報ください。

Translation: “If an accident or breakdown occurs, please promptly contact the police and then let the pickup shop know.”

The company’s “In the event of an accident” (万一の事故のときは) page gives the following among its examples where insurance is not paid.

保険が給付されない例 事故を警察に届けなかった場合(事故証明がない場合)

Translation: “Examples where insurance is not paid: When the accident was not reported to the police (when there is no accident certificate)”

The Orix Rent-A-Car page gives the order of steps after an accident as follows.

負傷者救護の上、その場から警察へ通報し、相手の確認をしてください。

Translation: “Help any injured people, report to the police from the scene, and check the other party.”

損保ジャパン 事故・故障受付センターへご連絡ください。

Translation: “Please contact the Sompo Japan Accident and Breakdown Reception Center.”

※最初に「登録番号(ナンバープレート)」と「出発したレンタカー店舗」をお知らせください。店舗はレンタカー貸渡証の左下または本レンタルガイドの表紙に記載されています。

Translation: “* First, tell them the ‘registration number (number plate)’ and the ‘rental car shop you departed from.’ The shop is written at the lower left of the rental car contract slip or on the cover of this rental guide.”

※警察及び当社への届出など所定の手続きがなかった場合、保険・補償制度が適用されません。

Translation: “* If the set procedures, such as reports to the police and to us, are not followed, the insurance and compensation system does not apply.”

The Times Car Rental page also writes about settlements.

万一、事故に遭われた場合は、以下の対応をお願いします。またその場で示談せず、必ず警察に届出をお願いいたします。

Translation: “If you are in an accident, please do the following. Also, do not settle on the spot, and be sure to report to the police.”

その場で示談しないでください。保険・補償の適用ができなくなります。

Translation: “Do not settle on the spot. Insurance and compensation will no longer be able to apply.”

タイムズカーレンタル 事故・ロードサービスコンタクトセンターへ連絡してください。

Translation: “Please contact the Times Car Rental Accident and Road Service Contact Center.”

※お問い合わせ先は、出発時にお渡しする貸渡証に記載しています

Translation: “* The contact details are written on the rental contract slip handed to you at departure.”

The Nippon Rent-A-Car accident page is written in three steps. At the top there is this note.

以下のお手続きがないと、ご加入いただいた保険・補償、CDWおよびECOが 適用外となりますのでご注意ください。

Translation: “Please note that without the following procedures, the insurance and compensation you joined, and CDW and ECO, will not apply.”

The first is to help injured people, and it says 119.

・負傷者の救護を行ってください。 ・速やかにレンタカー車両を他の交通の邪魔にならない場所へ移動してください。

Translation: “- Please help any injured people. - Please move the rental car quickly to a place where it will not get in the way of other traffic.”

The second is to contact the police, and it says 110.

・警察への届出義務は、加害者・被害者双方にあります。

Translation: “- The duty to report to the police rests with both the person who caused the accident and the victim.”

The third is the dedicated accident reception center.

・レンタカー契約書(貸渡証)をご用意の上、事故受付センターに必ずご連絡ください。

Translation: “- Please have your rental car contract (rental contract slip) ready and be sure to contact the accident reception center.”

The number on the same page is 0120-220-865. For international roaming, IP phones, or when it does not connect, the number is 018-888-9194, where the caller pays the call fee.

Heisei Rent-A-Car’s terms write the report to the police as a condition of the deductible compensation system.

第30条(保険及び補償) … 6 第1項第2号又は第3号に定める保険金又は補償金の免責金額相当する損害については借受人又は運転者の負担とします。ただし、貸渡契約時に借受人又は運転者が免責補償制度に加入し免責補償手数料を支払った場合で、かつ、警察及び当社に届出のない事故、保険金が支払われない事故、貸渡し後に貸渡約款に違反した場合の事故のいずれに該当しない場合は、当社が当該免責額を負担するものとします。

Translation: “Article 30 (Insurance and Compensation) … 6 The loss equal to the deductible of the insurance money or compensation money set in paragraph 1, item 2 or 3 shall be borne by the renter or driver. However, if the renter or driver joined the deductible compensation system and paid the deductible compensation fee at the time of the rental contract, and the case does not fall under any of the following: an accident not reported to the police and to us, an accident for which insurance money is not paid, or an accident after the rental that violated the rental terms, we shall bear that deductible amount.”

For Budget Rent-A-Car, Heisei Rent-A-Car, and Nissan Rent-A-Car, an official page with contacts for an accident or breakdown could not be found. Use the contact on the papers given to you when you rent, such as the rental contract slip.

What Could Not Be Confirmed This Time

  • Whether the Ehime Prefectural Police hold three-way calls with an interpreter on 110, and which languages they handle.
  • The names of the 8 fire departments in Ehime Prefecture that have three-way simultaneous interpreting on 119. The status in places other than Matsuyama City.
  • Whether #9910, 110, and 119 can be used from a mobile phone from another country.
  • Whether the interpretation service in JAF’s English page works the same for people who are not members. It is not written that people who are not members can use it, and it is not written that they cannot.
  • The dedicated contacts for an accident or breakdown at Budget Rent-A-Car, Heisei Rent-A-Car, and Nissan Rent-A-Car.
  • Each company’s explanation of whether the “measures required by law” in the terms include a report to the police.
