The Kamijima Town official page for the route from Imabari Port to Habu Port, Chuo Pier (今治港〜土生港(中央桟橋)) puts the following line before its table. The table covers “passengers and bicycles.”

In the Kamijima pages, the ports where cars board are not in Ehime. They are on Innoshima or Ikuchijima. You enter the Shimanami Kaido at Imabari IC and take a ferry on Innoshima or Ikuchijima. The Kamijima pages list 3 routes that carry cars (“Carries: passengers, vehicles”).

The pages were posted on these dates: February 11, 2024 for the Ikuna Ferry, April 1, 2026 for Karoto Ferry Kisen, and September 1, 2026 for Sanko Kisen. The Karoto Ferry Kisen page says “※日曜日及びドック時は全便運休” (all trips are cancelled on Sundays and during dry dock). The Sanko Kisen page says that trips marked ● are cancelled every Sunday. None of the three pages says whether the fare includes the driver.

This article crosses by the Ikuna Ferry. The tourism site tells people coming by car from around Habu Port to use the Ikuna Ferry from Nagasaki Pier, and Ikuna Island, where Tateishi Port is, continues to Iwagi Island by Iwagi Bridge. For Karoto Ferry Kisen, which goes to Yuge Island, and Sanko Kisen, which goes straight to Iwagi Island, only the time, fare, and Sunday cancellations are in the table above.

From Imabari IC to Innoshima-minami IC, a standard car pays 3,920 yen in cash on the Shimanami Kaido

The tourism site’s diagram “By car (via the Shimanami Kaido)” starts from Imabari IC for people coming from the Ehime side. It shows 44 km to Innoshima-minami IC, 4.5 km from Innoshima-minami IC to Nagasaki Pier and 8 km from Innoshima-minami IC to Karoto Port (we enlarged the starting point of the line to check). The JB Honshi Expressway section distance table gives 42.9 km from Imabari to Innoshima-minami, which differs from the 44 km in the diagram.

The standard car fare is at the point where Imabari and Innoshima-minami meet in the JB Honshi Expressway fare table (PDF).

In the JB Honshi Expressway fare table, the ICs run from Imabari in this order: Ikuchijima-kita, Innoshima-minami, Innoshima-kita. Innoshima-minami IC is inside the Imabari IC to Innoshima-kita IC section. The contact is the Imabari local headquarters of the Cycling Shimanami Executive Committee (0898-23-3055, weekdays 9:00 to 17:00).

At Nagasaki Pier, you drive onto the Ikuna Ferry

The tourism site’s access page has a map of the area around Habu Port with this note.

Translation: “If you are coming by car from around Habu Port, please use the ‘Ikuna Ferry’ from ‘Nagasaki Pier’.”

On the map, Habu Port and Nagasaki Pier are separate piers, and the Ikuna Ferry route line starts from Nagasaki Pier. The enlarged map of the Nagasaki Pier entrance shows “Boarding Lane 1 (乗船レーン①)”, “Boarding Lane 2 (乗船レーン②)”, “Boarding Lane 3 (乗船レーン③)”, and “Spare Lane (予備レーン)”, with “Bus Center (バスセンター)” and “Ticket Machine (券売機)” drawn next to them. In the photo on the page, you can read a sign “Ferry Boarding for Kamijima (上島町行きフェリーのりば)” with “(進入口はこの看板前)” (the entrance is in front of this sign) and “駐車禁止” (No Parking).

The same page explains how to board in “Taking a car on the ferry” (車でフェリーに乗る), in three boxes.

Translation: “Line up and wait in the waiting lane. For the Ikuna Ferry, you can buy a ticket in advance at the ticket machine (recommended).”

The fare depends on the length of the car. The car rows on the town’s page are as follows.

Under 3 m 320 yen 600 yen
3 m to under 4 m 500 yen 900 yen
4 m to under 5 m 630 yen 1,150 yen

On the same page, the first trip from Habu Port (Nagasaki Pier) is at 6:15 and the last is at 23:05. From Tateishi Port, the first trip is at 6:00 and the last is at 23:00. From 7:00 to 20:59 there are 3 to 5 trips an hour. (Trips marked ◇ do not run on Sundays and holidays. Extra trips run at busy times.) The crossing time is “about 3 minutes at sea” (海上約3分). The page was posted on February 11, 2024, which is old, so please check with the ferry company about service on the day you ride.

The rules at Ehime ports, such as the check-in deadline for cars, are collected in Taking a Car on a Ferry from an Ehime Port. The Kamijima page does not give the check-in time at Habu Port or Nagasaki Pier.

From Tateishi Port to Iwagi Bridge, 6 minutes by car

From Ikuna Island, where Tateishi Port is, you cross to Iwagi Island by Iwagi Bridge on the Yumeshima Kaido. The Kamijima tourism site describes the Yumeshima Kaido like this.

Translation: “With no traffic lights or tunnels, little traffic, and the sea close by, the Yumeshima Kaido is full of a charm different from the Shimanami Kaido.”

The Iwagi Bridge page says it is “the newest bridge, opened on March 20, 2022” (2022年3月20日に開通した最も新しい橋), a cable-stayed bridge with a central span of 475 m, and gives “6 minutes by car from Tateishi Port” (立石港から車で6分). The hours are “you can cross it any time, 24 hours” (24時間いつでも通れます。).

The wind limit for the bridge is in Ehime Prefecture’s table of advance closure sections. For the 1.5 km of Prefectural Road 338, Iwagi-Yuge Line (県道338号 岩城弓削線), from Ikuna, Kamijima, Ochi District (越智郡上島町生名) to Iwagi, Kamijima, Ochi District (越智郡上島町岩城) (Iwagi Bridge), the hourly rain and continuous rain columns are blank. The other columns are wind of 15 m/s for two-wheeled vehicles, wind of 25 m/s for vehicles, and ice (the table was updated on March 2, 2026). For the rules on days of strong wind or heavy rain, see Roads That Close in Heavy Rain and Typhoons in Ehime.

We could not check the time or the road names from Iwagi Bridge to Iwagi Port on an official page. From the map data, Tateishi Port and Iwagi Port are about 4.6 km apart in a straight line (a calculation, not the distance by road).

The destination is Iwagi Kyodokan, and the summit side of Sekizenzan is closed

The Kamijima tourism site introduces Sekizenzan on Iwagi Island as a cherry blossom spot with more than 3,000 trees. About Sekizenzan, the site’s notice dated July 1, 2026 says the following.

Translation: “Because of heavy rain damage, a part of Sekizenzan on Iwagi Island will be closed for the time being.”

Translation: “- Town Road Sekizenzan Line (from the North Fork to the summit)”

We have not found a page that says the closure was lifted. So the destination of this article is Iwagi Kyodokan (岩城郷土館), near Iwagi Port. The Kamijima tourism site introduces it like this.

Translation: “Admission is free.”

It is open from 9:30 to 16:00. It is closed on Tuesdays, national holidays, and the year-end and New Year period. The contact is the Kamijima Town Board of Education (0897-77-2070).

Iwagi Port Parking has two numbers, 30 spaces and 11 spaces

The pages describe the walk to the museum and the parking in different ways.

The tourism site’s list says the parking is free and adds “利用可能時間は各施設の営業時間内に限ります。” (Available hours are limited to the business hours of each facility.) The pages do not say which parking lot has 30 spaces and which has 11.

The way back is the Ikuna Ferry from Tateishi Port

On the way back, take the Ikuna Ferry from Tateishi Port to Habu Port (Nagasaki Pier). The last trip from Tateishi Port is at 23:00.

To get back on the Shimanami Kaido, it is 4.5 km from Nagasaki Pier to Innoshima-minami IC (the tourism site’s diagram). To go toward Imabari, you enter at Innoshima-minami IC.

What we could not check

  • The road names and turns from Innoshima-minami IC to Nagasaki Pier
  • The road names and turns from Tateishi Port to Iwagi Bridge, and from Iwagi Bridge to Iwagi Port
  • The current service status of the Ikuna Ferry, and whether the fare includes the driver
  • Whether the closure on Sekizenzan has been lifted
  • Whether there is another route that carries cars from Imabari Port to Kamijima (we did not find one in the Kamijima pages or in the Shikoku Transport Bureau’s route map)

This article was written only from official pages and map data. We have not driven the route yet. After we drive it, we will add road width and turns.
