The only route at Matsuyama Kanko Port that carries cars is the cruise ferry to and from Hiroshima and Kure

Of the routes that serve Matsuyama Kanko Port (松山観光港), only one can carry cars: the “cruise ferry” to and from Hiroshima Port and Kure Port. It is run jointly by Ishizaki Kisen (石崎汽船) and Setonaikai Kisen (瀬戸内海汽船). The “Timetable” page of the Matsuyama Kanko Port Terminal says the following.

Translation: “Matsuyama to Kure and Hiroshima, ferry. (Run jointly by Ishizaki Kisen and Setonaikai Kisen.) Ishizaki Kisen Reservation Center, 089-953-1003 (Matsuyama to Kure to Hiroshima). Passenger fare (one way: Kure 4,900 yen; one way: Hiroshima 6,000 yen).”

The same Hiroshima and Kure route also has a high-speed boat, the Linear Jet. On Ishizaki Kisen’s fare table (“料金表”), a vehicle fare table is given only for the cruise ferry. The Linear Jet appears there as the “Marine Express” (マリン特急便), which is small parcel shipping on the Linear Jet.

Ships toward Nakajima (中島) (Mutsuki (睦月), Nokutsuna (野忽那), and Oura (大浦)) also leave from Matsuyama Kanko Port, but the places where cars get on and off are separate.

On the routes that bring cars from Yamaguchi Prefecture, too, the port you arrive at is not Matsuyama Kanko Port. The ship table of the Matsuyama Convention & Visitors Bureau has these 2 rows.

We could not find an official page with the driving time from the port to Dogo Onsen

We could not find an official page that says how many minutes it takes by private car or rental car from Matsuyama Kanko Port to Dogo Onsen. It is not on the Matsuyama Kanko Port Terminal, Iyokan Net, the Dogo Onsen official site, or the Matsuyama Convention & Visitors Bureau. On “Access within Ehime Prefecture” (愛媛県内のアクセス) of Ehime Prefecture’s official tourism site Iyokan Net, the starting points you can choose are JR Matsuyama Station and Matsuyama Airport. Matsuyama Kanko Port is not included.

What is written is the time by taxi and by bus. In the table on the “Access” page of the Matsuyama Kanko Port Terminal, the standard times for a regular taxi are listed.

The top page of the same company gives a different number.

Translation: “To Dogo Onsen: taxi (about 30 minutes).”

The “Access” page of the Dogo Onsen official site says the following.

Translation: “From Matsuyama Kanko Port. About 43 minutes by Matsuyama Kanko Port limousine bus bound for Dogo Onsen Station; about 25 minutes by taxi.”

Source:

The taxi time appears in two forms, “25 minutes” and “about 30 minutes”, within the same company’s site. Neither is a time for a private car. This article does not give a driving time from the port to Dogo Onsen.

We also could not find an official page that explains in text the steps from the port grounds to the public road. The “Access” page of the Matsuyama Kanko Port Terminal has a heading “松山観光港から市街地へのアクセス” (Access from Matsuyama Kanko Port to the city), but its contents are one overview image and an embedded Google Map, and the overview image has no road names, route numbers, or intersection names. The guide map of the terminal premises is also an image, and the only text we could read was “至高浜駅” (to Takahama Station) and “至松山市内” (to central Matsuyama).

In front of the port is Prefectural Road 19 (Matsuyama Ko Line), and near Dogo Onsen is Prefectural Road 187 (Rokkenya-Ishite Line)

We checked road names, route numbers, and intersection names in OpenStreetMap map data.

The road in front of the Matsuyama Kanko Port terminal is Ehime Prefectural Road 19, Matsuyama Ko Line Just south of the port it enters Takahama Tunnel, goes south toward Mitsuhama, then turns east and continues to Chuo and Otemachi in Matsuyama. In the map data, the start of Prefectural Road 19 is recorded as Otemachi, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, and the end as Takahamacho, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. Takahama Tunnel is recorded as a tunnel of Prefectural Road 19. The length calculated from the shape of the line in the map data is about 1.5 km, but this is not an officially announced length.

Among the traffic light intersections that have registered names, the ones on the line from the port toward Dogo Onsen are as follows.

Intersection Latitude Longitude
Tatsumi intersection (辰巳交差点) 33.867684 132.718138
Iyotetsu Mitsu Station-mae (伊予鉄三津駅前) 33.863895 132.719216
Matsue-bashi (松江橋) 33.857389 132.719184
Chuo 2-chome (中央2丁目) 33.855066 132.747959
Chuo 1-chome (中央1丁目) 33.854241 132.752197

In the map data, National Route 437 is recorded as overlapping with Prefectural Road 19 (Matsuyama Ko Line) on the same road, from around Matsue-bashi in Mitsu to just before Chuo 2-chome intersection. We will add which number appears on the signs after we drive the route.

The road that passes right next to Dogo Onsen Honkan is Ehime Prefectural Road 187, Rokkenya-Ishite Line In the map data, the start of Prefectural Road 187 is recorded as Rokkenyacho, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, and the end as Ishite 3-chome, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. Its west side continues to around Chuo 1-chome intersection, where it meets Prefectural Road 19 (Matsuyama Ko Line).

In the map data, the section of Prefectural Road 19 (Matsuyama Ko Line) from Chuo to Otemachi in Matsuyama City is registered as 2 one-way roads. We have not checked the actual traffic regulations in the map data.

You can enter Dogo Onsen Parking only by turning right from the south

For Dogo Onsen Parking, Kanmuriyama (道後温泉駐車場(冠山)), on the south side of Dogo Onsen Honkan (道後温泉本館), the Dogo Onsen official site gives the direction of entry as follows.

Translation: “Note: You can enter the parking lot only by turning right from the south side (the Shiki Memorial Museum side).”

The same page also says this about leaving the lot.

Translation: “Note: Always stop when leaving the lot. The gate is at the top of the slope.”

The original text on the address, hours, and fee is as follows (the line on capacity is collected in the next section).

The Matsuyama City page words it as 「ご利用は、普通乗用車のみとなります。 (Only standard passenger cars can use it. Buses, trucks, and similar vehicles cannot park.)

On the north side of Honkan, there is also Dogo Onsen Iwaidani-higashimachi Parking The Dogo Onsen official site gives its address as 「愛媛県松山市祝谷東町437-1(道後温泉駐車場入口より北へ約400m先)」 (437-1 Iwaidani-higashimachi, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture; about 400 m north of the Dogo Onsen Parking entrance), its hours as 「24時間営業」 (open 24 hours), and its capacity as 「43台」 (43 spaces). It also says the first 1 hour is free whether or not you bathe, and that you do not need to pass your parking ticket through the machine.

The capacity of the parking lot differs between official pages: 92, 93, 94, and 100

The capacity of Dogo Onsen Parking, Kanmuriyama differs depending on the official page. Here is what each page says.

The original text of the Matsuyama City page “本館周辺地図及び市営駐車場(有料)、駐輪場(無料)” (updated October 9, 2026) is 「収容台数 92台 ※125ccを超える自動二輪車も駐車いただけます」 (Capacity: 92 spaces. Note: motorcycles over 125 cc can also park). The page for the Obon period says 94 spaces, and the page for the year-end and New Year says 100 spaces. The Matsuyama City page that says 92 spaces has the newest update date. We could not decide from the update dates which is the current number.

The names and addresses of the temporary parking lot also differ. 22-1」 (Matsuyama Tourist Temporary Parking / Address: 22-1 Dogo-Himezuka, Matsuyama City). The open days are distributed from the Matsuyama City page as 「令和8年度開放日カレンダー(PDF:33KB)」 (Reiwa 8 open day calendar, PDF, 33 KB). We have not yet read the contents of this PDF.

About the private parking lots nearby, Matsuyama City says the following.

What comes next for this article

The latitude and longitude of the points, and the route numbers and intersection names of the roads, are checked against OpenStreetMap information. The point numbers will match the chapter numbers of the driving video. This article is written only from official pages and map data, and we have not driven the route yet. After we drive it, we will add the position of the port exit, the wording on the guide signs, the guide before the entrance of Dogo Onsen Parking, the slope at the exit and the position of the stop, and the time it actually took.

The following could not be confirmed on the official pages.

  • The driving time by private car from Matsuyama Kanko Port to Dogo Onsen
  • A text guide to the steps from the port grounds to the public road
  • Which number appears on the signs where Prefectural Road 19 (Matsuyama Ko Line) and National Route 437 overlap
  • The capacity of Dogo Onsen Parking (the numbers disagree: 92, 93, 94, and 100)
  • The official name, address, and open days of the temporary parking lot
  • The official length of Takahama Tunnel, from the road administrator
  • The actual traffic regulations on the section of Prefectural Road 19 (Matsuyama Ko Line) from Chuo to Otemachi in Matsuyama City
